Deontologists Wanted - IMMEDIATELY!
We have an urgent need for several Deontologists schooled in the field of Normative Ethics.
Using Stoic sensibilities, the successful Deontologist must be proficient in statistics and probabilities.
In responsion to the silicon valley culture phenomenon, deontological ethics run counterpoint to any and all potential or so-called, "egregious ethical considerations" rooted in consequentialism. Polarizing virtue-based ethics against utilitarian rationale may be the pathway to prosperity, however, virtue is our baby and not to be thrown out with water of any sort. We should [and do] have algorithms that check other algorithms, each with a different philosophical foundation. Philosophically, fine-tuning is now a practice to be employed and not simply for the "fine-tuning argument".
How do we implement virtue-based actions in a purely empirical system? How do we influence statistical probabilities with Stoic or Epicurian sensibility? I will suggest one possible solution anchored in subjectivity and passion. There are many more to be imagined. Fortunately for us, the framework was provided long ago in Ancient Greece and is still with us today. What we call Philosophia means "love of wisdom" and is the underpinning of all the contemporary philosophy we understand today.
Passions Equal Subjectivity
As accurate as possible, I imagine a technology capable of monitoring the activities of sentiment and the subsequent regression towards utilitarianism. The mean and all other instrumental chatter require no prior experience in the Greek classics, however, our history of reconstituted wisdom is recognized as either Ancient Greek hegemony or the bar bar that counterpointed its conception.
BTW, with the onslaught of artificially intelligent algorithms, this narrative requires authorship, revised to the heartbeat of contemporary culture.
Utilitarian-based morality is manifest in all statistical responses, preventative and reactionary, and infiltrates our organizations, institutions and family structures for an immediate opening.
What about altruism? Is pure altruism is an accident? Consider dropping a $100 bill. Hmm.
